Tuna melt
A tuna melt is a sandwich made with tuna fish and cheese, usually American cheese, and then grilled or baked. The first tuna melt recipe was published in 1953 in The New York Times. It was simply tuna fish, mayonnaise, and cheese between two slices of bread. Over the years, people have added their own twist to the recipe by using different types of bread, cheese, and adding other ingredients such as vegetables.
Advice
When making a tuna melt, it's important to start with fresh ingredients. Use a good quality tuna in water, and if possible, freshly grate your own cheese. When mixing the tuna, mayonnaise, and spices, don't be afraid to use your own combination of flavors to make it unique. Be sure to season the tuna with salt and pepper to your own preference. Lastly, when it comes to the bread, go for something that is somewhat hearty and can withstand the heat of the melted cheese and tuna. A thick slice of rye bread or an English muffin are both great choices.
